SF TEAM to Hold First Ever Transgender Job Fair

San Francisco, Calif. – San Francisco Transgender Empowerment, Advocacy and Mentorship (SF TEAM) today announced that it will hold its first Transgender Job Fair on March 22, 2005, from 4-7 p.m. in the Ceremonial Room of the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center (The Center). This one-of-a-kind event, which is being cosponsored by SF TEAM and The Center, will allow transgender job seekers to meet with prospective employers.

"This is an important milestone for our community," said JoAnne Keatley, co-chair of SF TEAM. "Given the abysmally high unemployment rate among transgender persons in San Francisco, this is something that has been long overdue."

The Transgender Job Fair is also good for employers. According to a June 2004 report by the Human Rights Campaign Fund, "employers that develop and implement workplace strategies that address discrimination against transgender employees can enhance corporate reputation, increase job satisfaction and boost employee morale. Results can include increased productivity, reduced turnover and decreased vulnerability to legal challenges."

Those attending the Transgender Job Fair should bring copies of their resumes and come dressed appropriately for a job interview.

Employers attending the Fair will include the California State Automobile Association (CSAA), UCSF, Lyric, Good Vibrations, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, among others.

Other employers interested in attending should contact JoAnne Keatley at (415) 476-2364.

SF TEAM is a program of the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center.
